Bow ties are Cool

Do you know what else is cool? The last 6 weeks of my senior year in high school. AP tests are over, I have my Ball (prom), a load of senior activities and graduation. I'm currently catching up on the new season of Doctor Who (I've missed episodes for concerts and things.) and figured I'd type up a post. I got into my top two schools, and am incredibly excited to say I'm going to a SUNY in the Fall, for art education. If all goes well, I'll have some better art to post, and end up as an Art teacher.
Recently I've been enthralled by Triangles & the full human form, in quite a melancholy mood, and eating few things other than smoothies, carrots and hummus. I'm reading a collection of Lewis Carroll's works for my my Lit class, the count of injuries due to wood carving is up too four (all on the left thumb,) and I've become very skilled at sleeping again, which both aids the constant tiredness, but makes it worse if I'm not careful. I have found myself even more fond of my ginger friend than I have ever been (which is hard to imagine, but is true), and begun to seriously miss the friend I spent last summer with. It's driving me mad, and half of my thinks it's not necessarily her, but her company. I've been finding it difficult to save money for college and camera lenses, when I want nothing more than dozens of knee high socks, DVDs of Doctor Who and sketchbooks.
Which reminds me, once I save up $25 here (It's redgage. I get money for views. If you look at my content, I'd love you forever.) I'm going to get 2 packs of Moleskine 3-packs and draw on them. That will make me happy.
My nose is cold, and I've other things I must do, so drawings and photos below. Click to see them larger, on deviantart or redgage.

PS: If you've a tumblr or google reader, I suggest heading over to My tumblr, where my art is posted one thing at a time, more in sequence and sooner than it gets posted here.

That Feeling, Deep Down In Your Gut

Normally, I spend very little time on my doodles, scribbling and lining in a rough manner. But for some reason, my most recent has turned into a bit more than that.
It's coloured pencil, and helix fineliner to line it. I don't know it just sort of, speaks to me. (Which I suppose it should...?)
If I were to get a good scan of it, would you say this is print worthy, via etsy?
"Gut"
Basically, it is like the feeling in the pit of your stomach. It leaves your skin crawling, your throat closing up and knocks the breath out of you.
There are other things you could say it means, some of them I gravitate toward more than others.
Yeah.

Beware the Ides Of March

I'm going to tell you a bit about the last couple weeks, but first, Happy Birthday to STEPHEN!!!!!!!
Now, I learned quite a few things. I'm more stressed about college and the future than I thought I was (which is something I didn't think was possible.) I learned that tissues are even more entertaining than I thought ( when it comes to taking photographs.) Plus, I learned not to tell someone a false name the first time you meet them (because even though you're joking and just wanted to see if you could keep a straight face, you've screwed yourself. You're going to find him adorable, and that you have more in common than you realized, and then you're going to worry that all he cares about is that you told him your name was Elizabeth.) I'm enjoying self-improvement, making little doodles of things my lit teacher says, and my love of twizzlers is being rekindled. Also, I'm really enjoying running.
And now, some things I've posted since the last time I updated you guys. (ALSO, I've a Facebook page! I'd love you if you liked it and recommended it to your friends)

Strep. Throat.

I really hate it. More so than most illnesses. It's probably because I get it so much, but still. It just leaves me with a greater amount of apathy to try and push through. Really, almost all I've done is sleep, with very little drawing and painting going on. I had to go back to school, and didn't doodle much, past writing down little bits of what my lit teacher said, about existentialism, around a floating head. I kinda want to post that. I get all my best ideas in Lit. I should thank Mr.L for being good words to work too. (Seriously, he has the sort of voice that you can listen to doing almost anything, and remember what he talks about.) I'm done rambling about my Lit class now.
Oh, and I did my first partial pencil portrait in ages. I dunno why, but I've hid from pencil drawing for quite a while now. Plus, there is a hawk that was requested for someone on Tumblr.

Now to go wreck a concert.

You know I can't keep calm. Hearing that sound, you know I go crazy.

The month is 2/3 over, and the best way to get through the last days, is go to the Mall with someone fantastic, go to an apples store for the first time, purchase real cheap CD's and a Wolverine Bobble Head. I found myself with the Gorillaz, Sweeny Todd, Little Miss Sunshine, and the newest Dollyrots CD. The title being from the song currently stuck in my head, my heart explodes.
It's been a while since I've posted a blog, because, well, it takes me longer to pound out one of these than I'd like to admit. That's probably why I've been spending more time at redgage and tumblr, than I do here. I mean, most of the stuff on there will end up here eventually, so you don't need to go make accounts if you want to see everything I post. Once I get an acceptance letter, I'm guessing my mind will be less jumbled, and these will be more frequently posted.
So, I've been doing a lot more watercolouring than anything else, except maybe non-objective pen doodling. I really love my new brushes, which go to school in a sort of on-the-go watercolour kit. I even bring strips and pieces of heavier paper, from cropping other things I've painted.
I have the week off, so I'm hoping to get some more arty farty things done, once school stuff, SAT's are sent, my room's clean and I've got my guitar string replaced. Below, you can see some of the drawings I've done, and photos I've posted. As always, click to see them larger, on deviantart, tumblr, redgage or photobucket.

Sarah!
PS, if you have a tumblr, go here before the end of the month. Trust me

I Know What My Issue Is.

Spending time by myself isn't the greatest for me right now.
I mean, it is, but I lack the feeling of having someone to talk to at the drop of a hat, so I feel quite terrible.
So that, paired with some other stuff going long, is why I haven't drawn much.
But, I've been doing more doodling, which is better than nothing.
And, I seriously want to finish something, and make prints of it.
It's odd, but I dream of selling prints on etsy.

Sarah

My Heart Is Your Piñata

Okay, so maybe not. But I find myself wondering what would happen if I walked up to someone of the opposite gender, and told him such. I'll spare you all the boring and depressing "I'm a lonely only child, who has no boy to love her, or friends to hang with," crap. I do have friends, but I've to many things to do at home, so I cannot make plans without parents cancelling them. And the lack of boyfriend 'boo hoos' is mostly aftermath of seeing friends with their significant others. They are just so adorable & perfect together, it makes me wish I had someone. You know, the Benedick to my Beatrice. The Angel to my Buffy. The Ron to my Hermoine. Someone to hold me, and complement me even though I'll never believe them. [NO. I refuse to feel these teenage girl emotions!] Oh, and I read into things to much, so that doesn't help... sorry about the pathetic rambles. Anyway.

All I do in school is draw in my sketchbook. I've taken more photos in the last week than I did last month. I must go through all my sketches and photographs. I won't make any promises I cannot keep. You'll see something eventually. I'll just focus the emotion at music and art, so I can type up a real post.

Sarah

Don't You Just Hate

When people post blogs that are unusually out of character, and/or lists of things that they need to remember? Hi, and welcome.
Why am I out of character? I'm not sure. Well, I do, but it's nothing to disguss on a blog. Let's just say I kinda want to crawl in a hole and hybernate, while at the same time I'd like to get out of said hole, and run around like a baffoon. Two friends in two days tying your stomach in knots. Maybe it can make for good art? I dunno.
I've also been writing, and posting at my writing blog, which you can get to via my profile, which you can view thanks to a link on the sidebar. It's good, I need to get ready for college essays and NaNoWriMo.

Oh, so. The list. By the end of the week.
- Illustration Friday is Beneath
-PF is Macro Shot
-Three Muses' theme is Music
-I'm going to finish carving and printing my first multiblock print
-I'd like to draw another still life
-And you'll see some watercolour soon (I'm thinkin' next week.)

Wish me luck. The song of the day seems to be "Break the Sky," by the Hush Sound.
Loves,
Sarah

Dear Advanced Art Class

I finished the first of two drawings for my Advanced art class. It makes me happy, so you can see it, and then the letter I wrote to the class itself, not my peers. I'm a nut case, but you know, at least I can admit it.

(Click for larger View)
My dearest Advanced Studies in Art,
You no longer scare me. I fear not any sort of pompous or superiority complexes when it comes to my classmates. Intimidation of their skill is now practically non-existentYour weekly drawings no longer fill me with dread, in fact, I cannot wait for the weekend, where I can sit and draw that object for three hours.
Three hours I sat, perched upon cold porcelain, my toes freezing and my back aching as I leaned forward. I laughed at your hard bound book, and your many blank pages. I mocked you as lines came together to create the forms I saw in front of me. You deserved everything you got.
I've wasted a month, cowering in the 'shadows' of my classmates, which really only existed in my head. I've feared my inability to reach perfection while they all surpass my minimal skill. Not any more.
I refuse to be intimidated.
I refuse to believe I can never be as good as they are.
And now, I refuse to take less than 2 hours to draw something Ancient Egyptian.

Sincerely,
Sarah

Art School

Well, more like art in and for school. Let's just say that, while I do pay attention in class, I have a tendancy to doodle. Oh, and there is the stuff I draw specifially because it's graded in one of my art classes. So at the end of the post, you can see the first page in my Advanced Art Class sketchbook, plus some doodle pages.
Oh also, I just made myself Eggs Benedict. It makes me happy, not only because it is delicious, but because I've wanted it for what feels like AAAAGGGGEEESSSS. Plus, it reminds me of Benedick from 'Much Ado About Nothing,' my most favourite of plays. I've no clue which Shakespeare we're to read in Lit this year. All I know about that class is, the teacher doesn't think I talk enough. That isn't great.
Anyway, first my drawings for art class:

And some Doodles.

Happy Autumn!!

I am sorry I forgot to tell you guys sooner, I've just been a bit occupied. I remembered today for a few reasons. Mostly, because it happened to be one of those fuzzy-sock wearing, cocoa-drinking, drawing and doodling sort of days. I've wrapped myself in a blanket and just felt cozy, which I adore. And, after I went outside to draw "something from Nature" for my art class, I really needed the cocoa.
I've been plotting sketchbook covers, since my moleskins are thin and plain, so not only will I get to decorate them, but I'll also go through them more rapidly than other sketchbooks.
I feel as though I haven't been terribly productive today. I've spoken to Sam and a Myriad of other wonderful people, and caught up on my blogs. That reminds me, I think you should check out Jessica's blog. She's an artist as well, doing a lot of painting, as well as other wonderful and arty things. She seems to think a lot like I do. Show her some love. Part of me wonders if I haven't posted any practice paintings of people, because I envy her ability to paint skin. Like, until my shadows and highlights are as smooth as hers, I won't feel up to par. Oh well, haha, here I go again, comparison after comparison. :P
Oh, and there is one more thing I did today. I MADE CUPCAKES! Chocolate ones, with this delicious chocolate filling that Jacq gave me the recipe for, and chocolate frosting on top. I enjoy baking, and tomorrow will be the second time I'm bringing cupcakes to school, for my friends, for no reason other then, because I can. Now, to actually finish a drawing for Illustration Friday this week.

With love,
Sarah

Drawings, Wolverine, Music and an Old, Forgotten Painting

So, I've been spending a lot of time in my room, sitting at my desk, drawing. I'm gonna post some more drawings and sketches toward the end of this post. I've been feeling really odd, and quite spazzy. So, I've been listening to a lot of CD's, different bands. Plus, I got a few new ones. But, I listen mostly to The Hush Sound, Oasis, 3Oh!3, The Wombats, Vampire weekend, Eric hutchinson and Muse. You can see the top CD's on my pile in the picture I took.
Oh, so Sadly, Salazar is becoming much more filled. I'm not sure what's gotten into me, but I've just been drawing up a storm lately. I'm not complaining. Anyway, I've a few sketchbooks for once he's full. And the next ones I've are a plain tan moleskins, so I'll be able to decorate them. You can see them now, before I take stickers, markers, and/or other stuff to them. All packed up nice and neat.

Also, I'm working on a multiblock print in my advanced studies class, of a photo I took myself. It's inspired me to try and make some stamps of my own. No, I'm not carving into erasers.... yes I am. Oh, and I've been having my friends draw me photos on sticky notes, and have pages in Salazar for them. I absoloutly love sticky notes. Yay. Oh, and I've a disposable camera almost all the time. Not only am I documenting my senior year, but If I'm lucky, I've a few neat shots on the camera I'm currently working on.

Ever since I drew Wolverine on a hard boiled egg in July (don't ask,) I've been kinda sorta obsessed with the clawed super-awesome hero. So I now have purchased a multitude of comics, and have spent four dollars and about 10 minutes in the dollar store, feeling through foil packaging. I got stickers, but more importantly, I now own a short little Wolverine Figurine. Best Day Ever.

Sooooooo, now you get to see a bunch of pages from my sketchbook, uploaded to photobucket. You can click on them to see them in a larger view. They are a variety of pen, coloured pencil, Sharpie, watercoloured pencil, and washable marker.

Oh, one more thing. I found a painting I "finished" in August, mostly splattering with a hint of a face behind it. Acrylic paint, I was thinking about doing a few others, as a sort of 'series,' but have since then changed my mind. This was titled "Disquietude." I'm not sure if I'm going to post the actual painting, but I was taking detail shots, and really liked this one. So, I leave you with a shot of splattering and lips. (Click to see it larger)

Sarah
